A Sangaku Revived

چکیده
Abstract In this paper we give an account on our mathematical and visual explorations inspired by a sangaku. First we introduce sangakus – traditional Japanese mathematical tablets. Then we give four examples of our static contemporary variants. Finally, we discuss in detail how a fifth sangaku led us to simulate the growth of water lilies, as a means of visualizing the problem. This approach lead to the mathematical field of circle packing, and made it possible to experience the visually intriguing process with different settings of the algorithm. In this paper we give an account on our mathematical and visual explorations inspired by a sangaku. Vegetatively colonized agar cores of 69 basidiomycete fungus isolates (48 species in 30 genera and 17 families) were stored at 5 degrees C in tubes of sterile distilled water without manipulation for 20 years. These were represented by 34 isolates of saprotrophic fungi (29 species in 19 genera) and 35 isolates of mycorrhizal fungi (19 species in 11 genera). Viability was evaluated based on revi...

The Tachinidae of the Afrotropical Region are catalogued and seven genera and eight species are newly described. There are 237 genera and 1126 species recognized, of which 101 genera and 1043 species are endemic to the region. The catalogue is based on examination of the primary literature comprising about 525 references as well as numerous name-bearing types and other specimens housed in colle...
